Today, I am celebrating the life and work of Georgia O'Keeffe. A few quick facts about the iconic American artist:

• O’Keeffe married the gallery owner and photographer who hosted her first exhibition, Alfred Stieglitz.
• The majority of her 2,000 or so paintings are not of flowers but of other subjects—landscapes, seashells, barns, etc.
• Her floral paintings were never meant to be anything other than detailed studies, enlarging the subject to call attention to its beauty. It was her husband’s marketing materials that first suggested they were representative of female anatomy, and O’Keeffe spent decades refuting his claim. 
• An expert seamstress, O’Keeffe made her own clothes, shunning the restrictive women’s styles of her day.
• O’Keeffe would often use her Model-A Ford as an on-site studio, as it provided accessibility to her subjects and shade on hot days.
