This found-object assemblage is a tribute to the love of books and reading. In two compartments of an antique sewing machine drawer is a collection of goodies appearing to spill out—in the top compartment is a pair of antique reading glasses paired with a dangling vintage bauble, miniature books and scrolls created from a 1909 publication, and a quote from Louisa May Alcott, which reads, "She is too fond of books, and it has turned her brain."
In the lower compartment is a jumble of miniature books piled on a comfy chair for reading, along with a vintage bell to signal it's time to read (Isn't is always?), a vintage key, and bits of dried moss.
The backdrop is a painting by Carl Vilhelm Holsoe (1863-1935) titled "Woman Reading in An Interior."
The assemblage measures 5" x 15" (including drawer pulls) and 4" deep, and it is designed to be displayed on a bookshelf or table with your other treasures, or displayed on a wall (fitted with wire for hanging).

MY ARTIST STATEMENT—Painting is a daily ritual for me, as I continue to discover ways to express myself through art. My goal is to create artwork that represents how I see the world around me—or how I hope it could be, a place where mercy, benevolence, and peace are commonplace and can be found around any corner, under any tree, or beside any stream. At the same time, I desire to create meaningful work that others forge a deep connection to and bring into their own home as a unique expression of who they are.
