This original painting gives witness to a woman who has gone to the beach, standing with her feet in the water and wearing an orange and green dress. The painting is heavily textured in its surface, with layers of history in the sky and sea. The text inscribed to the right is excerpted from a poem by Emily Dickinson reading:
I started early and visited the sea,
I felt his silver heel
upon my ankle—then my shoes
would overflow with pearl—
until we met the solid town
no one he seemed to know—
and bowing, with a might look
at me—the sea withdrew
Size: 16" x 20" and 1.5" deep
Medium: Cold wax and oil on a birch panel
Details: The painting is purposefully unframed, and its sides are finished with a matte cream wash. The panel is fitted with wire for hanging and is signed and dated.

MY ARTIST STATEMENT—Painting is a daily ritual for me, as I continue to discover ways to express myself through art. My goal is to create artwork that represents how I see the world around me—or how I hope it could be, a place where mercy, benevolence, and peace are commonplace and can be found around any corner, under any tree, or beside any stream. At the same time, I desire to create meaningful work that others forge a deep connection to and bring into their own home as a unique expression of who they are.
